What’s Inside You

As the world’s eyes are on Ukraine, I’ve learned much, but one thing we can all relate to.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, was a Jewish TV comedian who ran for president in an Eastern Orthodox country and won. Not surprisingly, he was often questioned and critiqued about his ability, or inability, to lead the nation. And people didn’t know if they could trust him. Then Putin ruthlessly attacked his country.

The USA kindly offered Zelensky safe passage out of the country to set up a government in exile—as practically all leaders in such situations have historically done—but he refused and famously said, “The fight is here. I need ammunition, not a ride.” He appealed to the European Union, telling them they may never see him again and that he needed their help.

Starting from these two events, this man inspired all the Ukranian people and much of the world. All have been amazed at what was in him and came out, rose up, in the face of Putin’s invading army.

One man can create so much horror, destruction, and death.
One man can stand up, boldly and sacrificially resist, and inspire an entire nation and the world.

No one ever saw that in him. How could they? He himself may not have known that was in him until he was put in this crisis.

You and I are not at the center of the world stage. But we are at the center of our own life’s stage—and the ways we interact with the people in the world around us.

Considering your own life’s stage, what might be inside you that hasn’t come out yet? What might be inside you that could rise up to some situation?

What might you stand up to?
     A challenge
Something you need to do and have avoided
A bad situation that needs to be made right

Whom might you stand up to?
     A person doing unethical things
Someone giving trouble to another person
Even yourself (a part of your life or character that needs standing up to)

What might be inside you that God created you to become?
