My Favorite Restroom!
My favorite restroom is the one where I step into infinity. Yes, a restroom.
I walk into this room with mirrors on all four walls and ceiling that reflect infinitely in every direction but down. It plays with my eyes and mind, and I play along.
What would it be like to step through the mirror into the images and enter another dimension?
I want to go beyond myself, beyond the ordinariness of this world. I want to step through the mirror into infinity. Become countless me’s, all moving in sync with my original me, now lost in the wonder of life with no limits. Wow. What would it be like? What would I do?
But alas, I remain in a restroom. Just me, the toilet, and the sink. And an extra roll of toilet paper.
As I deflate, I come back to the infinity that really does exist beyond the veil that separates life from death–or better said, the veil that separates this life from the one beyond–eternity in the presence of God. It’s all around us, just as God is. It’s even in us, though we’re rarely aware.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 says that God “has made everything beautiful in its time”–everything here and now is beautiful, and is ours to appreciate. Then it says, “He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” We already have eternity set in our hearts. God put it there. That’s why we yearn for it. And as the Scripture says, we cannot fathom what God has done. That’s why we have so many questions.
So it’s all good. Just be patient. Appreciate the beauty of here and now wherever you find it. Look for it in small expressions. Or big.
And if you’re connected through faith, look forward to infinity. Eternity. Limitless life in the presence of God.
Life here and now then becomes so much more livable, meaningful, and purposeful.
