The Pope of Hope
Pope Francis is my kind of pope, and I’m not Roman Catholic. The guy is humble in dress, behavior, toning down ceremonies, closeness to people, preaching, care for the poor, and emulation of Christ. His faith is, by all accounts and evidence, genuine and deep–and clashes with much of the Vatican’s opulence and power structure. Tweet
North Korea’s Goading Reminder
North Korea’s military buildup and bombastic threats of war have gone far beyond the usual bluster. This young Kim Jun-un seems capable of doing something really stupid. Tweet
The Eagle and the Sun
The Eagle and the Sun Our striving and God’s grace. The golden eagle circled the sky above the treetops and along a mountainside. Supreme Morality
The Supreme Court takes up gay marriage, along with a slew of other cases. Some kind of history will be made. We always hope that the truth wins over falsehood. The Con Man Like the Rest of Us
The con man gets caught. Christopher Chichester… or Clark Rockefeller… or Christian Gerhartsreiter (his real name) has been conning and falsely impersonating his way through life. The supposed British aristocrat, Hollywood producer, whatever, is on trial for murder. The incident happened long before he married, not telling his wife who he was, and later kidnapping his daughter. This guy needs some direction. Yet if I step back from the whole circus of this man’s life, I wonder if he’s more similar to other people that we think. Tweet
